A glass cutter is a tool where the cutting wheel is used to make a shallow score/indentation on the glass surface. The scoring on the surface of the glass directs the break along this score line. The straighter the score line, the easier it is to get a successful break. Curved score lines can usually be easily broken accurately. That score line can separated along the line so that the glass is split into two accurate sized pieces. Regular art glass can be broken apart this way but not tempered glass. Tempered/safety glass will shatter into multiple small glass fragments.
