Transparency Values Explained
Transparency of glass is measured by the level of Opacity. It is a measure how little light or how much light can pass through a sheet of glass. There are different levels of Transparency starting with Transparent styles and gradually increasing in Opacity to the more obscure Opalescent.
Transparent - Light can easily pass through these 100% transparent glasses since they don’t contain any opaque glass or other light blocking material, such as metallic flakes in Aventurine glasses. Formerly known as Cathedral Products.
Translucent - These mixed products are predominantly transparent glass with some opaque glass mixed in, allowing light to pass through in many or most areas.
Semi-Translucent - Predominantly opaque glass with some translucent glass mixed in, allowing less light to pass through the sheet or pass through in only small areas.
Opalescent - Glasses that are primarily or completely opaque, reflecting most light away but often featuring a luminescent glow when backlit depending on the specific product.
Random Size Glass classification - where applicable
RS Glass refers to Random Size Glass because the sheet size can vary from the Standard size. RS Glass size varies between: 10 x 20” ( 1.4 sq ft) to 23 x 23” ( 3.7 sq ft). Random Size glass is part of the standard line and matches to colour and texture. RS size varies from piece to piece and we will try to come as close to your size request as possible.
T Glass classification - where applicable
A glass color and or texture including irids that fall out of the manufacturer’s standards for matching color or texture. When buying T Glass be aware the color and or texture will be slightly different than the Standard line.
